Local Goes Global at the Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival September 21 and 22

Savour Stratford (www.savourstratford.com) is Globally Inspired, Locally Grown at the Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival from September 21 – 22. Renowned for its focus on promoting local producers and chefs, this year’s festival will offer talks, tastings and cooking demonstrations highlighting how local food can be transformed with international flavours.
Local Perth County foods will be paired with the cuisines of India, Trinidad, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Thailand represented by guest chefs including television personalities Vikram Vij, from Top Chef Canada and Roger Mooking from Everyday Exotic. Awarding-winning Brazilian chef Mara Salles, from Sao Paulo, Brazil will be joined by Francisco Alejandri, Toronto Star’s 2011 Chef of the Year, Elizabeth Rivasplata, Top Chef Canada finalist and Wing Li of Linda Modern Thai.
“Food in Ontario has become increasingly inspired by international cuisines and flavours. The abundance of Ontario fruits, vegetables and meats that lend themselves to global culinary traditions means it is only natural that the Festival programme pairs them together” says Jennifer Laurie, Programme Director. “We have invited some of Canada’s top chefs to showcase their culinary heritage through cooking demonstrations, talks and tastings throughout the Festival weekend”.
Some of the presentations will include “Hot Food, Cold Wine” pairing Ontario VQA wines with Indian dishes; “Food and Markets of Burma” and “Mozzarella – Italian Tradition, Stratford Style”.

The Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival is the annual celebration of Stratford and Perth County’s farmers, producers and chefs. The Festival was awarded Best Ontario Culinary Experience in 2011 and Ontario’s Event of the Year in 2012. The Festival is operated by the Stratford Tourism Alliance, the community’s industry-led destination marketing corporation.
